Murder Between the Lines
The one where AJ falls asleep.
Yeah, it's a dream episode. A.J. takes the case to find the long lost cousin of novelist Rockwell Stark. He falls asleep on the job and dreams a Rockwell Stark novel. The movement from reality to dream is cheesy. There is a fade from A.J. asleep on his desk to the first murder in the dream. Except they hold the ghosted image of A.J. way too long. Gigi asked why his head was floating. A.J. dreams multiple murders that are from the book. The final murder is supposed to be the "young private dectective." Much is made of A.J. being "young." According to an earlier episode he is supposed to be only about three or four years younger than Rick. Both in their 30s.
Ray Walston is his usual fun self in this episode. Marie Windsor well plays a creepy housekeeper. Keith Berwick plays Keith Berwick, a Universal honcho talking to a young soon-to-be murdered novels. The series was made by Universal. Sounded fishy to me also.
Favorite line: "Hey, the name of this company is Simon and Simon." as A.J. walks out with Starks' check made out only to A.J.
