Mom would be so proud

Thanks to Glenn Greenwald I saw the transcript where Sen. Feingold had a question or two of Alberto Gonzalez at today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing:

Feingold: It is a disgrace and disservice to your office and the President to have accused people on this Committee of opposing eavesdropping on terrorists.

Gonzales: I didn't have you in mind or anyone on the Committee when I referred to people who oppose eavesdropping on terrorists. Perish the thought.

Feingold: Oh, well it's nice that you didn't have us "in your mind" when making those accusations, but given that you and the President were running around the country accusing people of opposing eavesdropping on terrorists in the middle of an election, the fact that you didn't have Congressional Democrats in "mind" isn't significant. Your intent was to make people think that anyone who opposed the "TSP" did not want to eavesdrop on terrorists, even though that was false. No Democrats oppose eavesdropping on terrorists.

Gonzales: I wasn't referring to Democrats.

Greenwald: So, apparently, all those speeches Bush officials and their supporters have spent the last year giving accusing people of opposing eavesdropping on terrorists, and all the television commericals making the same accusations throughout the months leading up to the election, were not about Democrats at all, but were about random bloggers who are against all eavesdropping. Where?

The random bloggers Bush, et. al. were accusing of opposing eavesdropping? Yeah, I was one. Wow, first Time magazine makes me Man of the Year and now I'm discussed at a Senate hearing.

Hear that Mom? You were right. I am a late bloomer.

Congratulations. I'm not sure I'm one of those targetted--I don't think I specifically railed against evesdropping. However, I feel included.

Wait... you mean, I don't support the terrorist? God-DAMMIT! Here I was, thinking that as a flaming liberal I supported terrorists, and now I find out I don't? But... But... Isn't Bush right about everything all the time?

It's possible Gonzales didn't actually think about the Democrats. Because, as we all know, most of Bush's people don't think at all.

Temple of Me

Welcome. All web sites are temples to their creators. Temple of Me will reflect what interests me, Domoni. I am a husband, father (twice), American, and liberal. I live in a "Red state" in the South. I am nearsighted, ambidextrous and over 30. Actually, I'm 153.33% of thirty.
