It was 42 Years Ago Today
The Beatles stormed the US on February 9th, 1964. They had a taste of the US reception when they landed in New York on the 7th, but the Ed Sullivan Show was watched by over 40% of the nation. Most everyone was talking about the group the next day. Except me. I'm sure I was talking, but I was too young to appreciate the Beatles. I really didn't listen to the albums until the group had disbanded. The testiment to the staying power of the Beatles is that 42 years later I have a four year-old daughter who is a big fan of their music. She had her own Ed Sullivan Show moment when she discovered the Beatles in their film "A Hard Day's Night." I was watching and she wandered through and caught a few minutes. She asked about the film and I told her it was one from when I was her age. The next day she was asking to see "Daddy's movie." It joined the rotation with "Toy Story" and "The Emperor's New Groove."
